Books Can't Love You Back

Books don't replace any of my human relationships! Just because I love and collect books, doesn't mean I don't have loving relationships. I do have them! My wife of 21 years is the love of my life! She teats me so fine and I am amazed at how great she treats me! I would do anything for her!

I've got some more books and magazines since the last time I posted. But it's late and I have to get to bed.

But I wanted to post at least a little something, to let myself remember how nice a place Blogger.com is! I hope to renew a routine, here and although I don't seem to have people reading or commenting, I will go on being myself, writing and enjoying the writing. It isn't especially about getting an audience.

It's more about having a sense of place, of being.

And of course, I love to read other people! Lots of interesting folks out here!

Books can't love you back.

But invest yourself emotionally in the people you love and who love you! You will find yourself tremendously blessed and loved, in return!

Books, Magazines and Music

I'm a collector. My wife says all my stuff is just a bunch of clutter and that I should get rid of some of it. Maybe I should. Maybe I shouldn't. It's mine, I like it and I want to keep it. This is about me, it's very personal- and I love to collect!

The books I collect appeal to me for several reasons: it may be that it's illustrations attract my fancy, that they are amazing. Perhaps the dust-cover is absolutely gorgeous to me for some reason. What defines a book for me is the absolute surprise it springs upon my psyche and my gravitating toward its purchase. Sometimes the book is a gift.

My wife recently gave me a book called "Poems" by C. S. Lewis, edited by Walter Hooper. This book isn't much as far as it's physical looks are concerned. It's a HARVEST HBJ BOOK, and it's from 1964. But the poems of Lewis amaze me, and I also really enjoy his style. And there is a very nice list of Lewis' books, inside the front!

Collecting books has become something of a passion with me, and this love affair has been going on for some time! Books satisfy something within my breast and give me a pleasure beyond the mere act of reading. I may scan the book, decide I must have it, then not read it... it is just there. It is in my collection. It's mine! Maybe that's wierd. But I love books!

I have boxes of books in the basement, waiting for their time when the move to a bigger house will find many rooms- or at least more and better bookshelf space abounding!

What I collect is personal to me. This collection spans books of maps to religious history, inspirational and self-help, geology, geography, world and U. S. History, bibles, collections of quotes, arts and artists, science, weather and climate, architecture, westerns by L'amour... I could really go on with this list, but you get the picture, I'm sure!

It's the same list for my magazine collections! A step further and I have a calendar which I found and bought at a thrift store- it's from the early 1970's and is a collection of art from Eric Sloane, American Artist. A true collector's item! I tend to keep my calendars when they are of trees, and special things like Scotland's or Europe's castles. Or owls. Or old American barns!

So you can begin to see the formation of some clutter! No, it's not gotten out-of-hand. There are not boxes sitting everywhere, with only pathways among them. I would not do that to my wife! But my closet where I hang my clothes, well, when we bought this house, I found that this closet has a couple of good shelves in the back of it and are so handy for my magazine collection!

I have a growing collection of vinyl lp's, and just yesterday at a local thrift store, I found a great double lp of STARS OF THE GRAND OLE' OPRY: 1926-1974. What a treasure! And about that same moment, also this: CHET ATKINS: CGP. Another treasure! It's from 1988, and the cover AND the vinyl are both in excellent condition!

So in music, my tastes range from music of the 1960's (Oldies-but-goodies) and moves on to Classical- yes, that's right, things like the music of Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin... I love all those! But I must confess my love for music extends to folk music, jazz, blues, rock, big-band, a bit of rap... did I miss any other genres? I love soul music! Marching music! Russian, German and Austrian music! And I'm not done. I'm sure there is something else out there for me to yet discover!

Did I tell you that I have a small collection of Disney figurines of a miniature size? I have a few thimbles... got these from my Grandma Williams. I collect rocks, minerals, fossils, and I love pieces of wood from a variety of trees. Not to mentions miniature wooden boxes, bowls, vases' and whatever else I may find!

What can I do? Analyze myself til I'm blue in the face?

Forget about that!

I think I will just go on being a collector and trying to find a bit of space for everything. One of these days, that special break will come- and we'll get a bigger house!!
